A few card games do not make a casino-imo. This amounts to peanuts that couldn't purchase the grass for a stadium. Try opening a real casino on Block E or on the river or by MOA like people like to throw around all the time. Pretty sure it takes a constitutional amendment and that is no easy task.

If we were to legalize a real casino or casinos, the state's take could easily surpass $100mil./yr. and would most likely be a lot more. This could easily pay for a stadium.

pretty sure you are wrong and I'll bet my expert has a better handle on this matter than you do.

The bottom line is that, despite claims to the contrary, there is simply no constitutional prohibition of racinos or slot machines in Minnesota. Whether authorized by the Legislature independently or as part of the state lottery, racinos can constitutionally generate needed funds for the state of Minnesota.

I'd be more concerned about the Tribal Lobbyists buying their way via their generous DFL contributions than any legal interpretaion as to the legality of passing legislation allowing any racinos.

The plan for the Shakopee stadium is on the Trib. I like it. The Vikings are still saying the Arden Hills site is their first choice but the Shakopee site doesn't involve any increased taxes. They will support the funding through racino profits--so voluntary users, as well as ticket sales. The roads are in place so very minimal development for that. 169 cuts through the middle of the state roughly, almost border to border so it is easy to get to and from for everyone. With Valleyfair, Mystic Lake, Canterbury all being right there, it's an entertainment hot spot.

I'm convinced that the liklihood of any stadium funding bill getting passed during this legislative session are somewhere between slim and none...
  • the legislature does not have the backbone to pass a racino/casino bill which seems to be the only viable funding mechanism.
  • the Minneapolis coalition has suceeded in throwing up so many starts and stops with their scatter-brained proposals that the Minneapolis-centric legislature really has no Minneapolis option to get behind, which in the end is where the stadium would get built.
  • the timid election-year mentality will try and bank on that the Vikings lease will keep them at the dome another year and they can rehash this all over again after the elections next fall
  • the Vikings have to petition the league by Feb 15th to move for the 2012 season, not likely to happen during the upcoming legislative session unless the Vikings already have an agreement in place with LA

Pioneer Press has all three plans up now--Minneapolis plan is for the current Dome site. They have a spot to vote for the plan you would prefer too--Arden Hills is currently leading with Shakopee in second.

Shakopee sounds like a good location, it already has a lot of the infrastructure needed to deal with large crowds due to the other parks out there.

Chief Stadium Correspondent, Hitler provides update as to how many Viking Stadium proposals are now out there...

Hitler says NEIN for 10 minutes - YouTube

The most intriguing proposal may be from Bob Roscoe of Minneapolis, who said the design came from the “Journal of American Rocket Science.”
Roscoe said the stadium could be “built completely from materials available at Menards, fabricated by the box store’s night crew.” He said a Menard’s supervisor had estimated the cost at “three for $304,016.00, or one structure for $100,006.00.”

He said the stadium’s design would recall Minnesota’s heritage of “pickup truck toppers propped up on sawhorses as seen in back yards and driveways in northern [Twin Cities] suburbs.”

all nine proposals can be found here...
