Magnolia State Heritage Campaign is working on a proposed 2016 ballot initiative to re-instate Colonel Reb.

The proposed initiative has a number of other objectives on it, that I wish the creators would sever and pursue separately (English as the state's official language, etc).
I think the more issues they pack into this initiative, the greater the chances are that the Colonel 's return could be sabotaged (?) Take these issues, maybe drop some, and run them separately & progressively (I think)..
Here's the full language on the initiative: http://www.sos.ms.gov/elections/init...fo.aspx?IId=46

For whatever it's worth, here's the campaign's page, w/the petition to get it to the ballot & contact info: Magnolia State Heritage Campaign - Home Page

Well, I'm not going to sign that petition.

I will sign the petition, but only if they include a resolution to bring back the display of the confederate battle flag during Ole Miss games, and ensuring that a mascot is fully dressed in a confederate officer uniform.

You know, so we can relive the good old days of Ole Miss football...

Who's with me?

I'm not with you. I'm perfectly fine with the mascot being the Black Bears. Actually, it would be better if it was just the Bears. The Bear was written by William Faulkner. You can celebrate southern heritage, Mississippi heritage, and intellectual heritage without bringing the Confederate flag into this. The Civil War is over. The Union won. No more Col. Rebel or the Confederate flag.

People in this state don't seem to agree with you.

160 years later, and people still can't let go...

More like 150 years, but close enough. What we both can see is there is a strong desire to hold on to something quite traitorous.

Quaint, but inaccurate. Scratch that. Completely Untrue. Sorry.
