My husband is in the process of being relocated to Mississippi, and I just wanted to share the encouraging words that many of his colleagues have given us about moving to Mississippi.

I will admit that I have some hesitation about moving to MS - I really wanted to try to move back near my family in Chicago and really hoped to find a nice, bigger city in the Midwest or NE where we can settle, and, well, Tupelo, MS doesn't quite fit that bill.

But, I am excited about the opportunity and looking forward to exploring what MS has to offer. Anyway, so many of my husband's co-workers have told us that we are "in for a treat" with our move, and that we should "really enjoy" our time in MS. I've been concerned about being so far from all of our friends and family, and so many people have reassured us that our new neighbors will welcome us with open arms. It helps a lot to hear that!

Now, any plans for a Target in Tupelo?

No plans for a Target here in Tupelo that I am aware of. But we have two big Walmarts!

It's not Chicago. I once lived in Chicago.

Real estate prices will please you. So will real estate taxes.

Race relations are extremely good and is one of the best things about Tupelo. Most neighborhoods have both black and white residents.

Eat at Vanelli's your first week here. It's locally owned, although Papa died a few years ago.

You'll probably find friends here; most people do.

Good Luck!

if you have to move to MS, the Tupelo area is one of the nicer places to be. you are about an hour from Memphis if you really need big city shopping/dining/etc.. but honestly Tupelo has more than it's fair share of shopping/dining with a whole lot less crime. i am not saying the area is crime free at all, just that it is "safer" than many other areas of the state, and a whole lot safer than Memphis!

Smile Ironic

It's wonderful to hear about the comments from your husbands colleagues-that has defintely been my experience in the two times that I have visited MS and from the contact w/my wonderful MS in-laws. We will be relocating to Hattiesburg MS in July, (my husbands hometown) and I am SO excited to leave the midwest-don't think I could have taken another winter here!!! I hope that your relocation goes well and that you enjoy MS. Now if MY husband could only find a job there I'd be even more excited .

Jefferson's Place for good steaks
The Rib Cage for good bbq
Stables Downtown Grill for good appetizers/snacks
Gloster 205 for special occasions
Las Margaritas for Mexican
Sweet Peppers Deli for great sandwiches & salads

granted this was many years ago but i'm sure they're all still very, very good and independently owned/operated.
