According to some in the music industry here in the Memphis area, you would be surprised at the big names in rock that do just this. Others have gone to Tupelo and purchased a guitar at the same hardware store where Elvis bought his first. John Mellencamp recorded his last album at Sun Studios using some of the same equipment that the legends (Presley, Cash, Lewis, etc.) used.

I guess it depends on your definition of "phenomenal."

An advantage of the trace is that you don't have to deal with semi trucks.
In Middle Tennessee, one big disadvantage to the Trace is that there are so many cyclists to maneuver around.

That, and the boredom.

I agree that there are other scenic highways to drive on. I drove the segment of U.S. 278 from I-55 to Tupelo, which was amazing as well. Just simple beauty. I wish I could live there, but coming from Connecticut as a gay italian dude, there's no way I would fit in LOL.
