Congratulations to West Jones High School. It just became the first school in MS to have more than half of it's graduating class qualify for the Mississippi Scholars list. 114 of 205 graduates made it.

OMG this is my first time surfing the MS forum. cjohnsonRE, your post brings back many memories. I think I broke out in hives while reading it! I grew up primarily in Jasper Co but lived in Laurel for about 5 years. I got out of MS 13 years ago, but occasionally go back to see family. I try to bribe them to come see me instead but my grandmother in Jasper Co just won't fly so I have to go back myself from time to time. I'm trying to brace myself for another visit.

Good luck on your trip. I used to go swimming pretty often up to Waukaway Springs and Lake Bounds. We also used to go hunting up near Vossburg near where my father grew up. He graduated from old Claibourne School a long time ago. What part of Jasper County are you from. I QB'd for West Jones in football and we used to play Bay Springs. We beat them 18 to 16 my senior year. More of a brawl than a game really. Where are you living now? We are just outside of Johnson City, TN and really love it here. Attached is a picture of the Nolichucky River near where we live.

Nice Pic.

I attended the ballgames because there's not much else to do in Bay Springs, but honestly, could never tell you to the score to a single one at this point in my life. Of course, since I'm of the female gender I never played on the team...the scores would have likely meant more if I had.

I currently live just north of Dallas, but have lived lots of places since leaving MS. Hope to eventually end up back out west where I can regularly snowboard and hike in the mountains. Of all the places I've lived, Albuquerque was my favorite. I'd go back there in a heartbeat if work will ever allow it.

I haven't spent much time in TN...a few trips to Memphis and also to go hiking in the Smokeys. Got to see some black bear cubs with their momma on a hike. Really cool. And I'm much rather run across them on a hike that the grizzly I nearly got too close to in Yellowstone.

I have a friend in Laurel MS. The Saul family? Anyone know them? It was my understanding they were a big family down there the way Scott talked about it.

I was born and raised in Laurel. I left many years ago going out of state to college. I have not been back in over 20 years and often wonder about the place that was lovely and dear in my heart as a child.

I have recently been reading the Laurel Leader Call online and have read some good things and some not so good in relations to possible gangs. The city needs the support of all the citizens to keep control of the city that i still have good memories about.
