Massive difference between being critical of the state, or more specifically the [insert adjective of choice here] politicians who run the state, vs. the generally friendly people who live and work in the state.

Pretty much all the negative things have to do with a fairly small minority of Mississippians who make lots of noise and wield lots of power.

With the redistribution fiscal conservatives and social liberals into red states, the Republican party will die. Hopefully. You DO realize that, right ?

I've lived in Hawaii and Arizona, so the migration of Californians was a constant presence. I could have done w/o most of those transplants, especially after the politically correct movement came about. As a liberal, I find that sort of thing offensive. Let people alone and stop telling them what to do, say and think. It has a smell of holier than thou to it. People can think whatever they want and say it too, no one is responsible for that but our own selves.

Being from Mississippi, I think its a good thing that Californians are not happy about our culture, history, the Rebel flag, etc. They can put us down all they want, and usually in the most offensive and stereotypical way, because that old history keeps them out of the state. As a group (not individuality) they always drive housing prices up and constantly complain about how it was done in California. I mean, if they liked it so much, why did they leave?

I could not have navigated through Mississippi without the help and support of this Mississippi Forum. Without nearly everyone's sage advice, HUMOR, and generosity, I may not have been as mindful of Mississippi's culture. So many things were brought to my attention that I would not have otherwise thought of.

On more than one occasion I was told not to "bring California with me." I didn't understand what that meant until someone, I think Listener, explained it to me. Maybe Southern Man.

Anyway, I am grateful for the good advise, guidance, and encouragement because it has been life-changing. A wonderful gift, because Mississippi has brought me so much joy.

I live in San Antonio as well and although it’s not all politics, the migration of Californians and other out of states people is starting to ruin texas. Mississippi has a pretty good gig going on because most of the country think it is so backwards and racist that they would never consider living there. The second people find out it isn’t that bad it will lose all of its charm, culture, and many of y’all will be priced out. Yea there will be more job opportunities but we will see if it is worth it. I would consider moving to Mississippi one day as it still had lots of culture left. Small town texas isn’t so bad either

Or the social liberals actually alienate many in the Dem party like they did me. Moved from NY to Alabama and left the Democratic party due to all your liberal socialism.

Many of the "blue collar" or "Reagan" Democrats have been left behind by their party because of how far insane it has become.

I try to honestly have this conversation with people who are willing to be objective to see how far things have shifted leftward. Honestly compare the actual positions of Trump. Review them, not the biased crap you read on CNN or MSNBC but actually look at his policies. Then keep in mind he's been branded as "literally Hitler". Do the exact same exercise for Bill Clinton who was a generally beloved president by many in the Democrat party. Compare their actual positions. Prepare to be shocked.

Trumps actual platform is essentially the same as Bill Clinton's positions.

There is real political migration occurring. Red states are getting redder and blue states getting bluer. I live in way upstate New York and I know so many people totally fed up with how insane the states politics have become they are moving. Most of my family has already resettled in SC. I'm doing my research as well. The people leaving NY, CA etc and going to non traditional places are not going there to change things they're going there because they like the way it's done.

If the Republican party dies off it's because the voters no longer have confidence in it and view it as a uniparty with the Democrats at which time Republicans will simply no longer participate in the system or will establish a new party.

I agree with this sentiment. Here in Tennessee we have seen an huge wave of Californians and New Yorkers escaping lockdowns and high taxes. I understand the desire to escape the conditions and politics of places like that but they are changing Tennessee. They have doubled the price of houses in just a few years. They have brought their driving with them. We have become a huge destination state (along with Florida and Texas) and we simply cannot handle the size of this movement.

Our neighbors in Mississippi should be thankful that they have flown under the radar the past few years. Really you don’t want this.

Not sure you have anything to worry about.

"..Population in 17 states declined last year, including Illinois, Mississippi, and West Virginia—the same three states that lost residents during the 2010-20 decade. Although population growth had been gradually slowing before COVID-19, the pandemic exacerbated this long-term trend..."

I live in San Antonio and Corpus Christi is considered a small city… pretty sure it would be the biggest city by far in the sip though.
