New to the post but not the gulf coast. My husband has been activated to Gulfport from Alabama for 1 year to 18 months. He will be working around the Airport. Just wanted info about housing, rental properties, etc. Need info in the next few weeks. My father in law lost everything after Katrina, he lived in Pass Christian. I am excited but sad to go back to see things. Any info would be greatly appreicated.

There are many rentals in Hancock county, I also saw many rentals above I10 in Orange Grove. But rent is high now, I saw an add on a bill board here that said something about many houses for rent starting at 795. I'll try to get the info from it tonight and post it for you. Most places are renting at 1200 and up.

Are you not able to get housing on the Seabee Base? Or did you mean activated in something other than the military? The Seabee base has some very nice housing.

That is a good question.. I assumed she was Army, as she said POST, the Navy and Air force call them BASES. I don't know of any Army Post here other than National Guard, and Reserves. And they don't have any housing as far as I know.

as for Rents, I did a quick google for "Gulfport MS Home rentals", and got quite a few results, all from 795 - 1400. Give it a try.. you may find something quick.

Thanks for the help. Yes, we are National Guard from Alabama. My husband will be TDY to gulfport for at least 1 year. I am planning on staying put but not really sure if a move wouldn't be good. What is the area code down there. I got the phone # 795-1400 but no area code.
He will be at the Gulfport Airport. How is the morning commute around the airport? Once again sorry about the late response to your posts.

A move down here maybe just what your looking for. But then again, I don't know you at all.. so I could be way off. We could use the man power, so many jobs not enough people... but yet our roads seem way congested recently.. strange.

Highway 49.. is dreadful in the mornings, in the afternoon, but not so bad late at night. Its near the airport, thats why I mentioned it.

Good luck, I am sure you both will enjoy it down here.. The Post behind the Airport is not too shabby.. and its in a pretty nice part of town too.
