Henry Shaw made a fortune in the 1840s outfitting westward bound wagon trains and retired when he was 40. He then transformed a wild prairie outside St.Louis city into the Missouri Botanical Garden (Shaw's Garden.)


On October 27, 1838, Governor Lilburn Boggs issued the " Extermination Order " against Mormons living in Missouri, demanding that members of the Mormon church leave the state.


The Missouri Historical Society organized in St.Louis on August 11, 1866.

James B " Big Jim " Kinealy 1832-?
He was a carpenter who ran a livery stable in St.Louis which he used as a cover for a large counterfeiting operation. When his chief engraver was sent to prison for 10 years he concocted a scheme to steal Abraham Lincoln's body and ransom it for the release of his engraver.

He was one of the last people arrested in St.Louis for grave robbing.
