Kansas City, Mo., June 22---Kenneth Lewis, 22 years old, Loren Welker, 18, and Mary Secrist, all of Kansas City, Kas., and a young woman whose name has not been learned, were thrown into the Missouri River near Parkville, Mo., when a motor boat in which the four were riding was capsized today. They were swept down the stream and it is believed all were drowned. Police from this city recovered the empty boat a few hours after the accident and it was identified as belonging to Lewis. Up to a late hour none of the bodies had been recovered.

Boiler Explosions

New York Times October 18, 1866

BOILER EXPLOSION, 22 PERSONS BURIED IN THE RUINS

St.Louis, Oct 17---A terrible boiler explosion at 10 o'clock this morning, in the turning-shop of J.H. Vonbrock, on Franklin avenue, which totally demolished the shop, also a three story brick building on the east side of the street. twenty two persons are known to have been buried in the ruins. Eight, when taken out, were dead, and twelve were more or less wounded. Two, and perhaps more, still remain in the ruins. The ruins of the buildings immediately took fire, and the firemen and a large force of men are now engaged in extinguishing the flames and removing the rubble. Several of the bodies are so horribly burned that they cannot be recognized. The cause of the explosion was the weakness of the boiler, of which the proprietor is said to have been notified by his engineer some days ago.

BOILER EXPLOSION AT CHELTENHAM, MISSOURI

Four men were killed, two fatally injured and three slightly injured Monday afternoon by the explosion of a boiler at the Laclede Firebrick Works at Cheltenham. The explosion occurred in the main building of the works. The two boilers were located at the south side of the building and covered by a shed. But one of the boilers exploded. Seven men were at work on the roof of the shed repairing the whistle at the time. The boiler divided in half, and one-half of the boiler was carried clear over the main building and landed on the road on the opposite side of the street. The other half of the boiler was carried 10 or 12 feet. Frank Seger, the fireman, was blown into a creek 30 feet distant from which he was fished out sometime later. The four men who were killed were terribly mangled. The shock was felt for blocks and the report was heard for miles.

PRISON BLAST KILLS 6 AT BEVERLY MISSOURI

Beverly, Mo., (UPI)-- Six bodies have been recovered in the wreckage of an explosion that rocked a U.S. penitentiary honor farm, authorities said early Wednesday. Six men died and four others were injured in the explosion Tuesday that authorities said probably was caused by an accumulation of natural gas, ignited by a torch being used to repair a truck in the building. Rescue workers using large cranes worked throughout the night in bitter cold and through heavy snow to recover the bodies. The explosion leveled an entire wing of a building that was being used to repair prison trucks. The explosion caused the concrete floor to collapse through the basement, crushing some of the victims.
The dead are:

John Coogan, 51, prison guard
Frank Kenneth Simmons, 34, inmate
Juan O Soto, inmate
Donald F Letellier, 43, inmate
Jerry Coleman, inmate
Cantrell Blair, 28, inmate
