The sport's still young. UFC hit PPV in 1993, but it exploded here only 5 yrs. ago. Give it time. Young kids are starting off training MMA. GSP and Anderson wouldn't be able to hold a candle to these kids who are going to come up 10-15 yrs. from ow.

bingo!

the sport is constantly evolving...and what you'll get is a BJ Penn fight, BJ Penn being a WORLD CLASS grappler, standing up the entire fight. if he was one demensional, wrestlers would take him down at will.

you're so right about the fighters of the future...not only will they become more mixed in their styles, but they will be more athletic with more and more WORLD CLASS trainers coming into the sport.

Even if you trained several arts equally, you would have a particular approach that suited you better. In a fight, most people are going to use the style that allows them to be most effective.

The statement MMA fans and Dana White say about the sport "You must be good in all disciplines" is false, you can be good in only 1 just like Damian Maia. A boxer will only need good takedown defense to make it to the sport, just like Chuck Liddell except that he isn't a good boxer at all.

Maia is great in one, and good in the others. If Maia didn't know how to throw a punch, I don't think he'd be in the cage. I think Liddell's take down defense is a better asset than his hands. But, he sure knocked a lot of people out. He knew he needed work, that's why he went to Howard Davis Jr.

In this present day. If you gave James Toney Chuck Liddell's takedown defense, he'd super dangerous. I'd like to see Kermit Cintron get into MMA. I think he could get close to that.

Chuck Liddell is not a boxer nor does he box or claim to, he is a kenpo/kempo practitioner. He also started as a collegiate wrestler. His power is undeneyable regardless of how good his "boxing" is.

A boxer is going to need more then takedown defense. Ask both royler and more recently renzo Gracie how effective a leg kick can be. Roylers leg was so badly beaten he could not walk for close to 3 weeks without some strong pain.

Machida found out how those leg kicks suck when he faced shogun.

You can teach a wrestler how to punch but you can't always teach a puncher to wrestle. Kimbo is a prime example, no deneying he hits hard and has koed people with relative ease but his ground game is forever terrible.

Well, there isn't a person who has James Toney hands and Chuck Liddell takedown defense alive that I know of. But if there was, he'd adapt his boxing to MMA and learn to check leg kicks enough to knock a guy like Rua out. That's just my opinion obviously, because we're not going to see a guy like for about 15-20 yrs.

it doesn't take a genius to know how to throw a punch, anybody can learn and those wild punches Chuck Liddell throws like he's drunk would get himself KO in pro boxing.
