Doesn’t really surprise me, Mobile is definitely an up and coming city at this point

1) LOL at you and your company. 2) You need to read the entire article because Mobile is ranked number 5 in business climate.

Was that list from 10 years ago? Mobile is very much a different city than even 4 years ago, again there’s a reason why it was ranked highly in the list (you should probably read it instead of looking at the first page)

So the Port of Mobile is still booming, the Year over Year growth for the port for August 2020 and August 2021 is 34% for TEU's. This is thanks to improved port infrasture and new business up north with port as well as the new registration unit. Year to date growth has increased a whopping 27% from last year

Also not sure if I shared these statistics but this is for the top container ports in country. I remember giving the statistics for 2019 cargo traffic but not 2020:
It is definitely very interesting, in 2020 the difference between the top 5 ports and the rest of the ports is quite stark. The top 5 ports all grew between 2-8% but then once you get out of the top 5 all the other ports tanked: New Orleans lost 16%, Philadelphia -16.6%, Seattle -3.4%, Charleston -3.3%, Jacksonville -10.1%.... a lot of negatives, the 2nd highest gainer from ranks 5-20 was Baltimore at .9%. Only one port stood out and not only grew but had double digit growth, Mobile. The port had grown 11.7% in 2020 and actually went up yet another rank to 17 and at the current pace will likely take San Juan and New Orleans in the next year or two to rank 15

The article I read from Alabama political reporter about this same thing suggests that Mobile’s will be just over 500k TEU’s in 2021. We had 250k in 2020, which is a massive jump in just 1 year. That would put us to 13 and would be right behind Baltimore. Even if port Everglades got it’s pre-pandemic 2019 numbers back, we’d overtake them and Baltimore in 2022 at the current rate of growth.

Curious.... has employment at the port or port affiliated businesses increased due to this growth?? Or is it mostly automated. Either way, that is great news.

With every new call, you would have more longshoremen, more mechanics, more support staff, etc., so the answer is certainly yes. Obviously, 500k TEU within a short time after opening for a completely green port like Mobile (w/r/t containers) is terrific.

We will see a lot of distribution centers and other similar logistical opportunities because of this growth. The South Alabama Logistics Park is only a piece of what is coming.
