I was out venturing on some free time today and I turned down a street by the name of Florence Place, which is also the name of the neighberhood. That neighberhood looked like a utopia for young families that are just starting out. Florence Place is like a miniture Goverment Street with out the historic houses !

I also ran across Ashland Place which is across the street from the monastery on Springhill ave. Ashland Place seem to be( oldmoney/ affluent)nice historic neighborhood as well. Both Florence and Ashland`s streets are coverd by the shadows of the oaks with Spanish Moss.

Monterey Street (mainly from Dauphin Street) is a grand historical neigherhood. It has the same charm as the Charlotte and New Orleans neighberhoods.

Venturing into some of these pocket neigherhoods in midtown brought a sense of pride. Mobile is a charming city hands down. Of course we all know that the city has room for improvements, but this old city by the bay has aged gracefully with charm.

Yeah many of them are really nice (east of Florida) but be aware of the easy flooding issues they have. A coworker of mine bought a renovated house and we both noticed the driveway and carport sat 6 to 8 inches below the grade of the yard, so we worked to raise it up to be leveled and also brought in 6 loads of dirt to raise the yard up some.. 5 weeks later, a heavy rain fell, and had it not been for the action we took, both of his cars would have been flooded badly.

Right, the problem over there is exactly what you just mentioned, the flood zone. That's the reason why a lot of thse houses are just rentals in the lower areas.

Yeah, if I moved back to Mobile and price was no object, I'd probably live in Ashland Place. Very nice! You can have your Government St's and Dauphinways.... I'll take Springhill Ave, thank you very much!
