I'm still looking for the old law that applied when I was in college (I never drank enough beer to care) -- apparently it was later upped to 7% -- but here's something about the latest law -- apparently Montana's definition of "beer" can now have up to 14% alcohol!

http://data.opi.mt.gov/bills/2009/billpdf/HB0400.pdf

(5) "Beer" means:
(a) a malt beverage containing not more than 8.75% alcohol by volume; or
(b) an alcoholic beverage containing not more than 14% alcohol by volume:

Seems the object of the bill was to make some small simplifications to bring MT code in line with current reality of the beverage market, especially for the microbreweries.

This beer is both banned in MT and way too pricey for me!!

I don't know why you couldn't label it "liquor" and sell it that way in MT, tho that would run into the restrictions placed on where hard liquor can be sold.

Wonderful hand-crafted ales...

They occasionally brew a barely wine. It'll set ya right on your butt!

Barley, or barely? Either way I'd say it's barely wine! Has anyone ever tried mead? I used to think it was just sweet beer. Oh no, you're on your butt after two glasses...

Every time I drink mead I have this insatiable urge to don a Viking helmet, grab a turkey leg and go pillaging.

Strange but true.

Oops!

Barley. And it is carbonated enough to tickle yer nose.

Barely is how you make it out the door without falling after you've had a few of those...

I have the same urge! Funny. That's part of the reason I've minimized my drinking... I can get kind of awnry. (sp?)

You know after a few rounds of mead it's easy to get that mixed up.

The wife has to jot it down on a post-it note and stick it to my war hammer.

In all seriousness I've always toyed with the idea of opening a Viking themed restaurant, complete with heavy wooden tables, casks of mead, trays of lutefisk and turkey legs... rounds of drinking songs, knife throwing lanes and barmaids that don't shave their legs or pits.

Kind of like a barbaric Hooters.

I think It'd do pretty well myself. But I'm Germanic so I think I'd be labeled a poser.
