Just left the area but lived there on the Penninsula for over 40 years
Middle school in Monterey is Walter Colton now mixed ( but segreagated) with K-8th grade all together.Personally IMO if i had to do it over again, i'd send my child to private if you can affoard it. Personally (and i sent 2 kids through the MPUSD i think that they need to retire a lot of teachers in that school district.
Its all about test scores and not about the child that can sometimes struggle but if you have an A student on your hands then no problem.
Best area to live in Monterey proper would be the Monte Regio area
that is close to Del Monte shopping center, schools are close by but expensive. Well for that matter, any thing in Monterey to live will be expensive!!
Depends what you are looking for in terms of entertainment and activities, what does your family like to do??
