Lol ! how animals will stay away when anything that has to do with India . Actually there are multiple stories significant to each day of 5 Day Diwali period.
It's a very compelling story for kids: Rama has to go heroically rescue his wife Sita and all the animals of the world help him to defeat the bad guys.
Villa Maria would cost at least $7000 a year (the regular fee is smaller on their website, but then you add sports and trips and music (also on their website) ). 5 years - $35K. My head is exploding from deciding, if it's worth it.
I guess getting an admission into Villa Maria is most important. Once you have that clearance then decide on which school to chose from. I am more inclined towards Westmount because I liked their advanced placement program. If that doesn't turn out to be up the expectations then one always have choice to move to schools like Villa Maria !

“Schools that accept everyone will receive public funding. If schools want selective admissions, they will no longer receive public funding” – PQ Education Ministre Marie Malavoy
... and this year she quit politics and who knows where the "public-private" subject is.
Where this issue is right now is that Education Minister Yves Bolduc mused about cutting private school funding as part of Quebec's massive program review to cut costs. He talked about it in the late summer, but just a few days ago backed down and said he wouldn't be touching private school funding. Or at least not touching it much at all.

Is there a powerful lobby representing private schools and middle- to better-to-do parents? What is the popular opinion in Quebec? More to the "leave it as it is", or "all this is unfair"?

Well, what is it... 20%-30% of kids in high school in Quebec depending on the region are in private schools?
Those people are mostly middle class, upper middle class or rich. They all vote and they tend to be educated and are generally politically astute.
So it's not a constituency that politicians want to get on the bad side of.
