Hello All,

I am in talks with my company to take a job in our Montreal office, and so in a month or so I may be relocating with my family (wife and infant son) up to Canada from Dallas TX!

We happen to love Montreal, so with regard to the city, we don't have many questions. I have friends and colleagues who live in various parts of the city and I am quite familiar as I travel there almost monthly.

My question is actually regarding the tax structure. From what I understand, I will be paying roughly 35% tax directly from my paycheck... as the single breadwinner for my family while renting an apartment. Would you say that is accurate?

I have requested between CA$80-CA$85K in salary plus all relocation costs - do you think that would be a feasible amount to live on considering rent for a 3 BR apartment in a nice area, 1 car (since we will be living in the city and I will be able to carpool a few days per week, we don't think we need a second car) and various other living expenses?

Any tips you may have with regard to moving to/living in/raising a child in Montreal would be much appreciated!!!!!

Thanks!

I googled "moving to Montreal" and this site came up.

So did the link to this topic from this very forum!

I don't understand why anglophones would move to Montreal myself, though the city desperately needs them. I'm waiting patiently for the day that DH and I can leave Montreal. I'm fed up to the back teeth with the politics in this city and province.

I wish you and your family the best of luck.

Most of the West Island of Montreal is very family-friendly, places like Pointe-Claire, Kirkland, Beaconsfield, etc. If your office is located downtown, though, you may not want to commute.

I love Montreal and think it's a fantastic city, but (and this may surprise some people) I would agree with ladyaugusta and am truly puzzled as to why so many anglos seem interested in moving there.

On this one I have to disagree. I don't see why Montreal "desperately needs" anglos more than any other group of people. Montreal, like any other city, needs good people period. Whether they are anglo, franco, hispano, Haitian, Algerian, Bosnian, etc. is irrelevant.
