Hello,

I am 22 years old and I live outside of New York City. I am very interested in moving to Montreal. I am a gymnast and a dancer as well and I can speak some french, enough to get by. I visited Montreal a few years back and fell in love with the culture and what it had to offer. Everything I want is in Montreal - they have wonderful dance programs, gymnastic schools to train, *affordable* rent!!!! It's just wonderful. The people were great, opened minded, etc. I am a fan, Montreal!

However, how on earth do I get there?

I want to continue going to school, train in dance & gymnastics, continue to learn french...

So here are my questions....

1. Are there any programs like "community college" in Montreal as we have here in USA?

2. Can I be an "international transfer student" without it costing me an arm and a leg and so I do not have to get Quebec residency?

3. To get a job (even serving at a restaurant), MUST I speak french fluently? Are there any english-speaking jobs?

Someone please help me out. I am planning to do this within the next year.... merci beaucoup

How did you get here when you last visited?

There are community colleges, of course. CEGEPS, to be exact. If you are 22, you might qualify as a mature student and study directly at a university.

Please read this first, though:

Our current corrupt mayor is planning to hike property taxes even more, if he is re-elected. This reflects in tenants' rents, of course.

I have been patiently waiting and saving up for years so that I can move off this wretched island.

Do you know how many corrupt blue-collar workers it took to erect a shabby wooden outdoor hockey rink in a local park? This is not a joke. TEN!

And only three 'workers' out of the ten were doing any work.

It's pitiful, just like Montreal is.

Go to Toronto or Vancouver!

He didn't ask you for your damn opinion about the political situation here, so why post it? You hate this city, good for you. Nobody gives a ****.
