Just like all the other laws. Ya think its going to stop anybody? Nope. Wouldnt stop me either.

Throw a shield over it. Get a warrant to find it. Not happening on a infraction ticket.

Better things for the cops to do they try to make it a little less loud.

Better yet, don't worry about it. I will never be quite, you are fighting a losing battle. Ill just run open headers next time I'm around driving the 454.

This is a two way street. Earlier this week, I had a biker use my lane so he could ride next to his buddy which is illegal in my state. He was in on coming traffic and couldn't stay in his lane I see many bikers around here drive up the middle of the road. You don't get to use the entire road for your pleasure. You get one lane like everyone else.

And countless times, bikers will climb up my arse and pass me on a double yellow. Sorry for going the speed limit! Where I live, cops don't have a lot to do and it's very touristy. Maybe someone with an instate license plate would know more than an out of stater?

Then there's the guy who completely trashed his bike passing someone in a 40 mph zone a mere 50 feet from the Harley dealer. Was in such a hurry to an ambulance ride apparently.

This doesn't mean people driving other types of vehicles are saints. Far from it. Just about every one on the road does stupid things at some point in their driving lifetime. But with bike season here in tourist land, I see a lot of dangerous maneuvers from bikers who then ***** and moan about people driving cars/pick-ups/suvs. Respect the road and your fellow drivers!

In my state, this is illegal. You WOULD be ticketed for this and your vehicle wouldn't pass inspection which is also illegal. Many towns have noise ordinances as well. Loud vehicles aren't allowed. Police actually do give tickets out for this. Why? The world is full of pollution and there's no need to purposely add to it.

Some cars dont have mufflers from the factory.

Mufflers have no effect on pollution, unless you are talking about noise pollution, but that is not harmful to the environment.

Most states, you can pass emissions with a cutout as long as its closed.

In order for the cop to give the ticket, they gotta catch you with it open. It's also an easy ticket to get out of.

There are stock cars that at WOT will far exceed many local noise ordinances as well.

Pass any law you want, it's not going to stop it.

Damn, you sound like a Boy Scout! I say good for you though. I know in the mountains in my state it could take quite awhile for help to arrive. I imagine it's worse in Colorado since there's so many more mountains and they're significantly higher. Sounds like you could give lessons a few.

To sell any vehicle in my state, a car must pass an inspection. Having and intact and functional muffler is required by law.

Mufflers attach to catalytic converters those do work on pollution - environmental and noise. Both have laws about them in my state. You MUST have both and they must be intact and operable.

In my state, your vehicle is hooked up to a computer which is online with the state. The state runs a series of tests. It takes about 10 minutes. It checks your vehicle's computer for numerous things. If the state's computer doesn't receive the correct information back, you fail your inspection. You have 10 days to correct this and reinspect and pass. If you don't, you automatically will receive a letter from the DMV with fines and possible license suspension.

Plenty of cops here DO catch the noise makers. Many towns they sit on the border and wait. And there's usually several cops in a row on days these do this. one town in particular is VERY aggressive with noise polluters. Residents have made it known that it is NOT welcomed and they are preserving the quality of life in their town And it is a gorgeous town on a peaceful lake.

So I take it no one has any Neon SRT-4s or other older turbo Dodges in your state, as they came with no mufflers from the factory, just catalytic converters.

Mufflers have baffles and chambers. These don't do squat for emissions.

Id love to see the law though mandating mufflers.

Wrong. Those cars had not one, but TWO resonators to reduce the sound, as well as a turbocharger in the exhaust path. Resonators do just as much if not more to reduce sound than a muffler can.
