Most supernatural horror movies don't scare me in the least. No matter how well done they are, once the credits are done rolling, I really don't think I'm going to walk out into the street and run into a vampire or a carnivorous alien.
I chose Halloween. Not really because it's the scariest but it's a classic and the one that started the slasher flims imo. I love horror films but most don't really scare me all that much.
I love The Shining as well. This scene in the movie always freaked me out when I was younger:
Kind of surprised something like "Last House on the Left" (original) wasn't mentioned in the poll. Didn't scare me, but honestly this movie seems to be as close to reality as you'll get when it comes to horror/thriller flicks. Really could happen to anyone. No ghosts, no demon possessed knife wielding psychos, no undead, just a few jerk convicts with no mercy.
The Amityville Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare On Elmstreet had their moments, exciting but not that scary.
JAWS, The Exorcist, IT & The Shining was scary when i was a kid but now it's more like a comedy to me (can still enjoy them tho especially IT).
Alien(s) is to SCI-FI to get me scared.
REC is to Spanish for my taste, didn't finish it.
The Sentinel? The one with Eva Longoria? Was that supposed to be scary?
I've never seen Burnt Offerings, Event Horizon, Salems Lot, Suspiria and Shutter.
The Ring, The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity and The Strangers are the only movies i can't watch when i'm home alone at night.
btw why are movies like SAW, Hostel, Scream, The Last House on the Left, The Blair Witch Project, The Strangers, Hannibal Lecter Movies (The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon) not in the Poll?
The 1980 paranormal film The Changeling with George C. Scott.
Many people in the theatre held their hands over their eyes afraid to see what was going to happen next. Others could not stop themselves from screaming. A very believable movie.
I voted The Exorcist, because it is incredibly scary, and is the scariest horror movie I have ever seen.
But Jaws has had a massive impact on society - our culture is scared of sharks because of it.
When people ask me what's the scariest movie I've ever seen I answer 'Puberty Blues' it's true that it's scary, but it's not a horror film - it's a true story about girls living in 1960's Australia. *shudder*

I watched The Exorcist when I was about 11 years old in the cinema with my teenage neighbours. In those days we didn't have film-ratings. The movie had such a horrible impact on me that for many nights, I had to sleep in my parents' room and couldn't go to the toilet alone without waking up my mom to accompany me. My own bedroom was below the attic and sometimes there were sounds of rats scurrying across the floor in the attic which kinda sounded like the sounds made in one of the scenes in the movie. The movie continued to haunt me for many years after that.
And as for Jaws, I couldn't go near a beach for quite some time after watching the movie!
