'Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark' the original with Kim Darby.Want my 13 yr.old granddaughter to see it,as this movie is horror 'Perfection' IMO.No slasher- gore-porn,profanity or sex, just terrific atmosphere and nail-biting suspense.

The original '78 Halloween is my favorite. The Shining is probably my second favorite and I do find scarier than Halloween. The bear costume scene still gets to me. Creepy as hell. Also, you can't beat Jack Nicholson in those bar scenes.

The Exorcist is by far the scariest movie, but Halloween gets the nod for best theme music.

True that. John Carpenter created a masterpiece.

Another vote for Carpenter's Halloween(1978). This was released 3 years before another badass Carpenter movie Escape from New York(1981).

Haha, he was a good one. One time I was babysitting & the kids INSISTED their parents have let them watch that movie so, I agreed. Needless to say, they didn't sleep that night.

I watched The Return of the Living Dead as a teenager in the early 1990's. I couldn't sleep or eat for a week after seeing that movie.

Fright Night and Fright Night II were darn good.
The Ring should be on that list also.

I chose The Exorcist. I'd read the book before seeing the movie and both scared me witless. Halloween and The Shining make my short list, too.

When I was a kid, this would keep me awake all night:
