Mrs Doubtfire, Robin William's talent in that movie was so good.
I agree. The serious parts of the film conveyed a man who wanted to close to his children. He was terrific. The Ms. Doubtfire character was hilarious, Esp the part where he uses cake frosting to conceal his real face after the mask gets destroyed. The look on the social workers face when he sprang out was priceless.
He was a very talented actor, And it's sad he is gone from this world.
I found Tootsie to be less nauseating than Mrs Doubtfire.
Mrs Doubtfire gave me the creeps. Many Robin Williams movies gave me the creeps, including Popeye, Jumanji, One Hour Photo. Still there were many excellent RW movies such as The World According to Garp, Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting, Patch Adams, What Dreams May Come.
Tootsie was an alright movie because Dustin Hoffman is a brilliant actor. Robin Williams was extraordinary in his own ways too, but it was always apparent that he was a bit emotionally/psychologically disturbed. He channeled that into his high-energy performances.
But any movie about crossdressing honestly makes me queasy. Even Amanda Bynes did a crossdressing movie about soccer. And Rodney Dangerfield had a little boy in another kids' soccer movie who cross dressed as a girl. Made me feel uncomfortable.
I'm still waiting for the movie about the woman who pretends to be a man and it shows her how to be a better person.
To me, Tootsie is clearly the better movie. I notice that some of the people choosing Doubtfire seem to be influenced mostly by a love of Robin Williams, but he has none of the precision or breadth or subtlety of Dustin Hoffman's performance, and I think it's telling that some who prefer Doubtfire mention the most heavy-handed childish silliness, like the face-mask.
However, I agree that neither film really shows them becoming better people overall, even though Hoffman actually says that. But I think that of the two, Doubtfire just shows the character being the fond parent he always was, whereas Tootsie gives you a little hint that the character may at least have his eyes opened slightly.
Tootsie......because never has ever interested me to see Mrs. Doubtfire.
