When the original picture was released “It’s only a movie” was a catch phrase used in its advertising. I remember it well; a bunch of us pot addled idiots took the El train down to the Loop in Chicago and saw the picture at a midnight showing at the Woods theater. My wife, who worked in the office of the small chain that owned the show got us all in for free.
