LOL - Bale potrayed Ken Miles who has a slight Birmingham (in England) accent.

The films looks very good, although Miles being told to hold back by Ford in order that all three cars come in togetheer ansd therfore not winning the triple was quite sad, given he was killed in a car carsh soon after aged 47/

However on the other side of the coin New Zealander Bruce McLaren, who won under controversial circumstances was well liked and set up the McLaren Racing Team which laterled to the McLaren Centre in England and McLaren cars. Bruce McLaren also tragicaly died aged 32 in a crash at the Goodwood circuit in England in 1970.

I did LOL at Enzo Ferrai saying that Ford made ugly little cars in ulgy factories, and calling Henry Ford II fat and claimed he could never replicate his great father.

Enzo Ferrar aso famoulsy described the E type Jaguar as the most beautiful car in the world.

Looks like a great film, great story and some great actors, and will be one of the great films of 2019 along with the likes of 'The Irishman'.

There was the pignant short film made by McLauen the company Bruce McLaren founded, and of course a film about Bruce McLaren made a few years ago.

Senna and Rush were also both great factual motor racing movies.

It also looks like Barry Sheene's life is finally to be made in to a movie.

Miles didn’t win the triple crown because he did run the most laps, like you mentioned though it was very unusual circumstances to be sure. If he wouldn’t have dies he surely would of won the following year/s.

You might like the story here. Posted a bit of the story for ya.

https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/n...e-mans-extract

Ken said, ‘They don’t want me to win the race. They want the Amon/McLaren car to win.’ I said, ‘Ken, what are you talking about? You’re miles ahead of them, how are they going to win the race?’ You gonna’ stop on the back chute or what? That’s impossible.’

But Miles was told the dead heat finish had been okayed by the ACO. To refuse to cooperate would mean the end of his career with Ford, so grudgingly, he agreed to go along with it, perhaps even believing that he had one or more laps in hand and that it would be for appearances only. But had that lap advantage disappeared with a suspect brake disc change?

Earlier, Hulme had brought their car in for scheduled brake change. Multiple sets of bedded-in rotors (discs) were prepared in advance by the crew chiefs of each car.

The new rotors were fitted and Miles took off for his stint, still laps ahead of McLaren. But then, trouble. Miles brought the Mk II back in the next lap. Agapiou was there.

“Ken said, ‘I’ve got a vibration, a brake vibration.’ I said, ‘It can’t be a brake vibration, it must be the tires.’ He said, ‘I’m telling you, it’s a brake vibration.’”

Knowing the rotors had been bedded in, Agapiou threw on a new set of wheels and tires and Miles was sent out. Only then did Agapiou learn that the rotors he’d been given were not in fact the ones bedded in for Miles’ car. Those had been taken by the McLaren crew. There was no time to find out why. Miles was on his way in again, and another set of rotors had to be fitted. Agapiou was livid.

Thanks for the link.

Miles would have won but Ford wanted all the Ford Cars to finish close together to give them a great photo image.

McLaren was further back in the starting grid so it was worked out he had covered more distance even if it was only twenty feet. I also agree that Miles would have won more if he had not been killed aged 47, but then again so would Bruce McLaren who was 28 at the time and died 4 years later aged 32. McLaren left a massive legacy and McLaren, the company Bruce set up in 1963 is now a ground breaking company.

As for the film it did embellish some of the truth, but this was mainly done for entertainment.

Le Mans rules hold that in the event of a dead heat finish, the car that drove the furthest distance is the official winner regardless of overall standings in the race. And since the Ford car driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon started the race eight meters (roughly 60 feet) behind Miles (who was in the pole position), Miles is declared the second place driver.

British driver Graham Hill later became the only driver ever to win the triple crown of motorsport, however he was sadly killed aged 46 years old, when the plane he was travelling in crashed in fog at night on Arkley golf course while attempting to land at Elstree Airfield in north London in 1975. Graham Hill's son Damon Hill would later go on to win the 1996 Formula One World Championship and won numerous ther races and awards.

In reality Ken Miles should have won the triple crown before Graham Hill did, but a techicality stated by Le Mans denied him.

Yes, that is exactly what she and many want them to do. Look at all the reboots, and the vast majority of movies and TV today. Whatever, she's entitled to her opinion, and we are entitled to IGNORE her and others.

I think Matt Damon was an extremely poor choice for Carroll Shelby. Bale was and decent choice for his character though. I wish they explored Shelby's relationship with the British AC car company that brought us the Ford AC Cobra (different from the Mustang Shelby "Cobra"). The Brits always had great de3signes back then, and Brit design with American engines, chassis, and ELECTRICAL systems were always a good match. Sunbeam Tiger is another example.

The best British driver at the time wasn't actually Ken Miles or Graham Hill, it was the son of a Scottish sheep farmer called Jim Clark. Juan Manuel Fangio called Jim Clarke the best ever, whilst Ayrton Senna went as far as visting Clark's home town h in Scotland to pay tribute to Jim, as he was one of Senna's heroes. Clark was tragically killed in 1968, and his good friend and fellow Scottish racing driver Jackie Stewart campaigned tirelessly to improve safety in the sport following Clark's death.

As for Graham Hill, his charm, wit, warmth, good humour and personality, coupled with his abilities as a racing driver saw him widely adored within the racing community and by motor racing fans and the general public.

...........
Jim Clark was definitely the best driver of his time. When Clark drove at Indianapolis, even cranky ole' A.J. Foyt said he was a great driver.
