There are probably 100s of different unique movie genres, if you get general enough. However there are only about handful of poll choices…. So something has got to give. Given the space limitations I decided to pick the most popular categories I could think of, while leaving space for other, etc., so that you from the forum could pick your favorite genre of movie.

So, if you had to pick one genre, which is your favorite? I know it is hard, but what do you find yourself most often drawn to? I bet you’re saying to yourself “Wah! It depends on my mood!” Well, I understand that…..but I guess I am asking, what mood are you most in, based on what movie choice do you find yourself most drawn to.

So, what is it…. What does it for you?

RomComs. Yes, I know they're cheesy. But I love them. Sadly there haven't been many in recent years.

Science fiction (but not horror science fiction or just action and fighting with almost no story at all).

The second one would be period dramas, but not all time periods. The beginning of the 19th century and onward. Especially 1920's and 1930's. Then, again, not too much crime (unless it's Poirot and Miss Marple ). I don't like too modernized period dramas that show the 21st century people, values and the way of life in the 19th century, for example.

Clubs and Swords

Generally, that means Barbarian like Throne of Fire, Hundra, Sinbad but it can extend into Tarzan, the Musketeers, Zorro and even into Klingons.

Science fiction for me. I also like dystopian themed movies, but science fiction cannot be beat in my humble opinion. A wonderful way to explore the human condition in a way that is non-threatening to the audience. Star Trek for me is the best, but that is an opinion. Star Trek in its various forms looked at love, hate, racial discrimination, gay relationships, love, war, hate, greed as did the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. Good stuff!

Some of my favorite movies definitely fall in the sci-fi genre, but I'll be the first to admit that 95% of science fiction movies are garbage. Same with Westerns.

Nope. I can't pick one. So many genres, some really great movies in a lot of them. Really, it depends mostly on what kind of mood I'm in. Scary movies (with low-intensity gore, or even none) sometimes, drama at others, comedy if I want to feel uplifted, sappy romantic Christmas movie during the holidays, etc.
