The Marlboro man?

The Fargo TV series is similar. Each season is a dark comedy with compelling characters and excellent crime drama. Season 2 draws from the villain above with the silent killer twins, at one time identified as "Thing one and Thing two".

Ha! No. I meant this guy:

I can pity the guy. But it's impossible to like him.

I love the TV series. Every season is different, and some are better than others. All good, but Seasons 1 and 5 are some of the best TV shows of all time.

Silence of the Lambs is the first one to come to mind. Everyone's pathology gets broken down; Buffalo Bill, Hannibal...even Clarice.

Pretty much all of Quentin Tarantino's films have this quality, as he really gets into the head of his protagonists (and antagonists, for that matter). I think that in order to justify the violence that is inherent in his films he wants you to know the path that brought his characters to that place.

Fargo was the Coen brothers but same idea, over the top violence when you least expect it.

Violent movies, especially horror movies really bother me. Movies like "Saw" (1,2,3,4) really give people bad ideas.

White Heat (1949): Cody Jarrett, a violent criminal with mommy issues. Maybe Cagney’s greatest performance.

I never pass a woodchipper without thinking of it.

It's not so much the films, which tone things down to a certain degree, but on a Harry Potter re-read, I was kind of bewildered by how upsetting and frightening a lot of the conflict and violence was, that I had almost completely forgotten about. By the end, it definitely wasn't the story I thought I remembered. There's a kind of twisted, Gilliamesque quality in the books that I loved.
