"Jobs" starring Ashton Kutcher. Ashton did okay but I am waiting to see Aaron Sorkin's version of the Steve Jobs story. On a scale of 1-5 I;d rate this move a 2.5...maybe a 3.
Watched "Summer in February" yesterday using On Demand. For those still mourning the abrupt exit of Matthew Crawley from Downton Abbey, this is a good segue. Looks like he just dusted himself off and strolled into his most recent role - same costumes, same time period. Decent film about some very interesting people I'd never heard of but based on real-life events. Gorgeous backdrop of Cornish coast.
12 Years a Slave. This year's Oscar winner for best picture? Most likely. If so, it would be highly deserved.
Dallas Buyers Club. McConaugheyhey was brilliant. Leto was pretty convincing as a transgender woman.
I just saw "Sweet Dreams", a documentary about a women's drumming group in Rwanda that expanded their activities to include economic development for members of the group. The film discussed the historical roots of the genocide, and gave some personal profiles of members of the group, some of whom were Hutu and others Tutsi. The group accepted members without regard to ethnicity or their relationship to the war, and so was viewed as a unifying force. They started a successful business, the first ice cream shop in Rwanda, which they named "Sweet Dreams".
Just watched The Way Way Back. Fortunately, it was one of those promotional free rentals on my Roku. I would be really annoyed if I had wasted $5.99 on it. Of course, I did waste two hours of my life. I don't get all the glowing reviews for that film. Nope.
Sorry to say I left American Hustle after an hour or so...it was
just OK for me...didn't create enough interest in me to stay.
I felt exactly the same, MH. I watched to the end, but wasn't impressed. Sometimes that happens when a movie is so hyped, I have unreasonable expectations before I enter the theatre & am expecting a Godfather caliber film. This wasn't it.
I called it the oddball hair movie, which distracted me at times from paying attention. Bale's acting was good, but his appearance was so gross & unappealing with the excess weight, awful wardrobe he was bursting out of & monstrous comb-over that I kept thinking I was watching the Tony Clifton character Andy Kaufman used to play. Bradley Cooper was okay, but the bit around the permed hair added nothing to his character. The Jennifer Lawrence character could have been played by anyone & her part was the smallest, so I don't get all the hype around her supposedly brilliant acting. Amy Adams was miscast, imho & should have been played by someone who oozes sex appeal, since her character was supposed to be a seductress... I don't get any of that from plain Jane Amy... she also grossly underplayed her part.
The drawn out plot was mediocre & the rushed, annoying Hollywood ending made me feel like it could have been a TV movie in which all loose ends are tied up in 'this very special episode of Blossom'.
I hated this movie, but just feel in my bones it's going to win tons of awards. Apparently, just wearing outdated, bad clothing & letting the director have someone mutilate your hairstyle means great acting to the mainstream audiences & film critics.
