Hirokin: The Last Samurai (2012) - IMDb

Caught the tail end of it on Telemundo a few years ago, picked up a copy, and finally got around to watching it.

Some might say it is just a copy of a Star Wars flick......but isn't Star Wars just a copy of a Samurai flick, anyhow?

The photography is excellent, the seduction and torture exquisite, the villain is absolutely beautifully perfect, and the wonderful thing with dealing with an alien race is that it makes it easier to believe the fantasy of the desert, of how they can appear so sensual and not wither in such heat and grit.

And yet, for all its good points, it seems like it never quite all comes together. There are many times when it seems it will become that perfect blending, but then it separates again. For all the effort they put into this movie, it is by no means a cheap flick, that flaw is quite a shame.

It's movies like this that I avoid. Being who and what I am, my reflexes will occasionally lock into a movie and react with it. Knowing what did happen and not being able to do anything about it while the limbic system is racing to find a solution is not a pleasurable experience for me.

well, it wasn't pleasurable for me either, i mean, i'm not feeling good watching people being hurt, it's just the history and context that interests me. my mother gave me the love of these kind of movies/books/documentaries. i watched one about the november attacks in paris, and i felt the same. my mother is also kinda obsessed with WWI/WWII movies/documentaries, horror movies and crime/legal TV shows. i think that's why i'm able to watch and listen to these things and not being perturbed by it; i'm too used to it.

sorry if i made anyone feel bad.

something lighter, Brice de Nice, with Jean Dujardin

The Walk (2015)

First time seeing it since in theatres. Fantastic film. Worth watching even if you've seen Man on Wire. Love that very little of it was fictionalized.

The VVitch, it was alright but tried too hard to more than a non jump-scare horror flick. It was fine for what it was but didn't live up to the hype I heard. I have a bunch of films to see over the next three or so weeks though...
