What I've noticed in three years on CD. The music forum is basically hard rock and metal.
I don't have a TV, but listen to music on my stereo or to online radio stations.
Hard rock and metal are two kinds that don't appeal to me. Rarely, does a Music Forum thread appeal to me.
Hmm...can't say I agree totally with your observation. I would go so far as to admit that the preponderance of CD music forum posters seem to be rock fans, but they're by no means limited to "hard" rock or metal. If I had to pigeonhole our favorite genre, I'd have to say that yeah, it IS rock 'n' roll, but probably leans more to classic rock, i.e. from The Beatles, Stones, Led Zep "british invasion" stuff all the way up to the '80's rock, inlcuding the "hair" bands & their power ballads, which are by no means the same as "metal."
We also have a good deal of southern rock fans here, including yours truly. Oh yeah, also alot of '70's laidback, California rock fans too!
And....in that vain................
I have spent some time in the Music forum and really there seems to be threads for every genre...and active posters in each of those threads. Also like it was mentioned before there are numerous, What are you listening to, or listening to feeling threads where I see anything from country--electronic---house---oldies---rock---pop, and actually less metal on those threads. I mostly seem to see classic rock/pop if you want to get technical.

Huh?! What are you talking about?! Most of the threads on this board are NOT about hard rock and metal.
There's almost as much variety on this forum as ther are genre's in music. I'm relatively new here and have heard examples of Avant-Garde, Rhythem & Blues, Blues, Rap, Electronica, Reggae, Folk Rock , Rock, World and International, Music from every decade pretty much from the 1920's until present. There are excellent posters on this forum whose taste is pretty eclectic. Not to mention Classical, Jazz Big Band Swing Country EtC.
How about a little Aboriginal Rock
There's only one thing that makes Humanity different Female-51% Male-49% Or vice- versa
Well, I guess you can't really open a 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's music thread, a 'what are you listening to RIGHT NOW, anything goes, most romantic, favorite songs evarrr thread' without seeing classic, hard rock or heavy metal in there somewhere..lol
But you can open a country song thread...hip hop thread, rap thread, pop thread, electronic thread, and not see metal. Unless you have a rebellious soul posting.
I definitely get a sense of a particular demographic on City Data as a whole. The neat thing is that there are 1,000,000 members on this site. Not all of them active, but its pretty cool to create a thread and see what bites....that rings true for music or any other forum. The all-encompassing aspect of CD is what makes it so fun
I have sensed that most of the active posters on City Data are also into more mainstream and traditional types of rock music, but I have also seen niche threads come and go.
I think it's really cool the way the members here banter back and forth with music. Many of the threads are really inclusive and fun while others are more specialized. The variety is what keeps me coming back for more. I get the sense that many people here get a lot of satisfaction from posting the songs of yore as well as putting the newer stuff out there and just communicating what they like in general.
I like going real odd or tangential and I have been pleased people will go with that. So I'll post like Enka, Kwela, Tuvan throat singing, Andean, Exotica, lesser-known Celtic, old-style English folk, etc. I almost never do hard-rock/metal as they're not genres I like. Although I might if say I needed a third thing for "Music of Liechtenstein" or "Songs about Porcupines."
For me I mix it up from a day of classic rock to soft rock then to some country etc.
From my favs like Styx, Journey, Kiss, Foreigner, Journey, Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Journey, Eagles, to Garth, Diamond Rio, Raschal Flatts.
Toss in a little MJ once in a while and some others from the late 70's and early 80's and I am good to go.
For me I do not like heavy metal or rap music.
So I guess I am not in the idea of hard rock and metal as the OP suggested.
