Which would be easier to learn at age 30? I don't have that much time so I would take lessons twice a week. I would like to at least learn a song or two by next Xmas. Is this a realistic goal?
I learned how to play the xylophone when I was in band as a kid so I feel a bit more comfortable on a piano but if it's easier to pick up guitar I'm all for that too.
Im a guitar player for many years. I couldn't even imagine playing piano with the theory and dexterity required.
With a guitar and all of the stuff on YouTube, you could probably figure out a song and play it reasonably well within two weeks or so.
So my vote is for guitar. But if your heart is not into it, you will be wasting your time, no matter what.
As a child, I played both. Back then, I would say I became more competent - if you could call it that - on piano sooner. I still play guitar and haven't touched a piano in decades, but that has nothing to do with ease of learning and more to do with personal music tastes.
I have to admit I probably accelerated faster on piano, due to the fact I was forced to take lessons and practice. I learned guitar on my own time, from books and records, without formal instruction. More of a labor of love.
I’ve been play the guitar for many years (too many regarding my level) I can't read a music sheet, I don't have any musical skill ... but ... Hey I can play two or three chords and have a melody or a song.
In my opinion, the guitar is definitely easier to learn and play than the piano.
Guitar is much harder in my opinion. I have had a decent one for a few years now but have never been able to get my fingers to work the frets. Piano is pretty simple. Just put your finger on the key and press.
