I don't care the version you prefer at all.

In fact, I'm shocked you like it-- as it sounds so forced, and inauthentic to the emotions expressed in the writing.

Elton John - Sacrifice (1989) - the ho-hum, by-the-numbers original

Sinéad O'Connor - Sacrifice (1990) - love her or hate her, you gotta admit she worked a real miracle here...

Wow. That's quite a difference. Elevator music from Elton on that one.

Can't Take My Eyes Off You - Frankie Valli

I've always loved this song and really like the way Frankie Valli sings it.

I heard Lauryn Hill sing this song and really liked her version. I was really surprised how much I liked her version since I usually don't care for remakes.

No, thank you. Roberta has nothing to worry about.

Respectfully, I agree and disagree.

Roberta is great. In fact, fantastic. I agree! But really and truly, this version is more soulful.

On that we agree. Where we disagree, respectfully, is that that makes it better.

I can still hear Casey Kasem counting down the top 40 in early '73. When he got to that one each week, he simply said "the record just keeps getting stronger".

Can you believe the time that has flown by? Hard to believe! I would hate to think of a music world without Roberta Flack. One of the greats! I am not a fan of LH's, but this version knocked me out.

What is love. This is just so beautiful, not at all like the disco original which only makes me think of the SNL skit.

Indeed.

I spent an eternity waiting to be old enough to drive one of the little cars around the track at the carnival (you had to be 12, as I recall). I mean it was forever and a day. Finally got there, blinked my eyes, and turned into a "senior citizen". Ridiculous.
