I have three of her CDs and will be buying the new one very soon. However, I'm wondering if her first two CDs (the self-titled Mandy Barnett and I've Got a Right to Cry) truly classify as country music? There are songs that I would say are definitely country, but some also sound kind of like jazz or like country jazz or something else. There are a few songs that sort of remind me of that Shania Twain CD that was hugely popular in the late 90's. Overall, I don't think the first CD sounds like country music at all. Her voice definitely sounds country, but only because she sounds like Patsy Cline.
I guess my point is that I don't know if Mandy's first two CDs are something a classic country/bluegrass music fan would like. I was thinking about buying them as a gift for my uncle, but I'm not sure he would like her particular style of music. I don't like country music, but I like Mandy Barnett. Although, I also like Jerry Reed and some of Dwight Yoakam's music, and that hugely popular CD from Shania Twain.
I like her. She's got one of the better female voices (even though she's now in her forties) and blows away any of the younger artists, but, at the same time, she's a modern artist who gets it right.
