What do these two groups have in common?

1. The Archies
2. The Cuff Links

Without cheating and just by memory, something about a similar songwriter wrote hits for both. The name escapes me now but if this was a multiple choice I'd get it correct.

You got it.
Ron Dante was the lead vocal for both groups and dubbed his voice.

Both songs made the top 10 at the same time for three weeks.

Dante was the anonymous voice that never made the record label.
Two very nice songs: Tracy and Sugar Sugar

I have an Archies album with Sugar Sugar on it. Dante sounded a lot like Neil Diamond.

Semi-famous guitarist for Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers. Surprised he's actually out there now on tour solo. Great nickname as well.

Since Dante was not on the record label he could remotely be the only "anonymous" lead vocal to ever have two top 10 hits in the same week.

What SNL alum used to be the drummer for Donald Fagen & Walter Becker's proto-Steely Dan college band?
