I am considering a move to Nashville for a job, but I am honestly not a fan of country music. Do I have any chance of liking it there?

IMO, I suppose it would depend on how much it bothers you....I understand that there are a lot of other kinds of music coming out of Nashville besides country music. But it is a dominating presence in Nashville. My husband disliked country music when we met 9 years ago...and now he listens to it as much as me, if not more sometimes!

Default As has been posted here before.....

It's called Music City for a reason.

Classical- We have the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. State of the art facility!

Rock- Mercy Lounge, Exit In, etc.

Alt- Will Hoge, Josh Kelley (Mr. Katherine heigel), Paramore, etc.

Blues, rap, lots besides country.

Good luck!

Exit In is on Elliston Place, near Vandy. Mercy Lounge is closer to downtown on 8th Avenue South.

Hey robwmu...I personally don't like country music either. I've been here 13 years now and haven't had any issues with it dominating my life or taking over in stores and such...there's a great variety of music, as mentioned below. Add to that list Christian music as well.

The Nashville Symphony Orchestra is first rate. They have performed at Carnegie Hall and made respected recordings.

As akm4 says, they now perform in a state of the art symphony hall.

There is also the Nashville Opera.

There is also the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt. I believe that most of their concerts are free.

I actually didn't care for country either before I moved here...liked the old stuff...willie, merle, johnny, etc...but have recently gotten into some of the newer stuff.

I think I've just gotten so tired of everything else...country is just something new for me.
