The ABA team folded. People here support Vandy Basketball and Preds hockey in the winter. Period.

Born in KY but raised in Nashville Area (Clarksville). BTW, our little area has probably produced just as many NBA players as Nashville. Anyway, I live in FLA now. And if Florida with its TERRIBLE transient fan base (college football state) can support the Heat and Magic, Nashville can. Although, there are not alot of "corporations" located here in Florida (it's not like Minny, Delaware, Seattle, Texas or the Bay Area.) it easily supports their teams. So Nashville could support a team with its large Medical Industries, Service Industries and Manufacturers. So I don't think that is the issue. I think its more of a demographics issue. Nashville is not nearly as progressive as Charlotte and other small market teams. It will have the same probelm as the Pacers. You don't choose players based on talent anymore but how they will be accepted by the fans and their biases. Then the fans don't support the team because they lose. It's a vicious cycle. I think if Grizzlies, Hornets, or Pacers decide to relocate it should be to Seattle, San Diego, Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Lousiville, or Kansas City.

Born and raised.

I think a MLB team would be much preferable to an NBA team.

Progressive. So that's what that means?

I think we have hands full now. Personally, NBA doesn't do much for me. Give me college.

Absolutely not. The people of TN need to learn loyality to their home teams as it is. We don't need another band wagon team.

Nashville is not large enough to support a 3rd professional sports team. The Titans own the town and the Preds are merely filler during the offseason. I find that more people are actually interested in hockey than basketball when it comes to the middle TN area. Plus you have to look at ticket pricing. People complain about $25 tickets to a hockey game. How could the city support an NBA team when fans don't even want to pay for a cheap seat during hockey season? I love Nashville, but it just cannot sustain more than 2 professional franchises.

To those wondering if an NBA team could thrive in Nashville..... Uhh, of course. Nashville has awesome, devoted fans. If Memphis can do it, then why couldn't Nashville? We have the arena (Predators) to host such a team. I think the Grizzlies should just move this way, however they've been doing well so they're going to be staying put for some time.

Why does the cesspool called Memphis have an NBA team and not Nashville? Oakland's are headed to San Francisco I don't see why Nashville can't get the Grizzlies.

The Grizz should stay put. Memphis needs at least 1 pro sports team.

And I think it will be some time before Nashville gets a third pro team. I would venture 15-20 years...10 at the tops. We're stretched thin sports-wise as it is. Our metro will probably have to be 2.2-2.5 million before we would have the base to support team #3.

Personally, I'm hoping team #3 is MLB. The South could use another MLB team.

As I said upthread awhile ago, that's been the NBA's strategy for a long time. Once outside the big markets, they'd rather be the only game in town. They specifically don't want to be second fiddle in the smaller NFL cities, since the NFL usually scores most of the corporate sponsorship. This is why cities like Oklahoma City, Memphis, San Antonio, Orlando, Portland etc. have NBA teams and cities like Nashville, Kansas City, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Tampa and Cincinnati don't.
