We booked a hotel room at the Super 8 on Spence Lane. Can anyone tell me what kind of area that is?

It's not an absolutely terrible area, but it's not a great one either. That part of Spence Lane is too close to Murfreesboro Road; and that stretch of Murfreesboro Road is well-known for being a problem area (hookers and some drugs). The police have cleaned it up a lot, but there's still some problems in the area. A cheap motel in that area isn't going to be the Ritz.

When my parents came to town in Oct. 08, I found them a place for cheap on Priceline...I've always had good luck with finding good deals on there, there is a method to bidding though. I won a night at the Homestead Suites in Franlin :
Homestead Studio Suites Hotels - Franklin, TN Hotel
for $35. It's not super nice (my parents had no problems with it), but it's in a great location you can walk to a lot of places and it's only about 15 min south of Nashville. Most other hotels in either Nashville or Franklin/Brentwood wanted at least 2x that amount. You might find some deals down in that area because I don't think occupancy is that high-business travel has been cut in the area. Good luck - if you want a very nice hotel, the Embassy Suites down there is always a good bet.

I work near the Super 8 you are asking about, and that area of Dickerson Pike is not too bad. The closer you get to downtown, the worse Dickerson Pike gets.
The Super 8 is surrounded by fast food places and a couple other motels, Econolodge and Sleep Inn. It is right next to the I-65/Briley Parkway Interchange.
If you stay there, you can see where I work at the place across Dickerson Pike with all the big satellite dishes.
