I am relocating from Lafayette, La. to Nashville in the summer of 2010. I currently teach percussion and music theory at a high school and percussion (drumset) at the local university and have been doing so for the past 7 years. I am also very active in the world of competitive marching band (Bands of America) as an arranger, both percussion and winds. I am hoping that this lands in the hands of someone who might know of a position with a local high school that's opening, or someone who knows someone, etc. But perhaps someone out there could offer advice about where to start the process of applying or inquiring about teacheing poistions in the immediate Nashville area...all advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
I would start by checking out the Tennessee Dept. of Education's website and see what you need to do to get your teaching license in Tennessee. There's a section for those moving from another state. Once that's done, I'd apply through the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools website so that your application is on file. Personally, I think the John Overton High School band is the best! I might be biased though because my daughter is in it. :-) Good luck to you! I might be able to give you some names of people to contact. I'll ask around and see what I hear.
