I prepared to and then it was over before I got outside to see it. I'm just not as fast as I used to be.
Today, while walking across a vacant field to the supermarket, I saw a Loggerhead Shrike hovering in the same spot in the air for more than five seconds (maybe ten), m aybe ten feet above the ground, intently watching a spot on the ground where it had detected the movement of prey. I can't recall ever seeing any other bird (besides a Hummingbird) hover for so long in exactly the same spot.
That's pretty cool that you could identify it!
We have them here, although they are not seen very often.
I saw one last week outside my home, on a telephone wire.

Here's one I saw in the edge of the everglades...it's photoshopped for the effect, but I didn't do that to all the pics

...and here's a couple of how the bird really looked without the silly effects....

Anyway, I just really like the shrikes!

I love all the photos that you all are posting! They're super!

Yes, we here in Northern California had a perfect view of it. The sun was so bright & then.... it just began to shrink into a crescent. The guy across the street came to show me (he was so excited) and he had a telescope where he had rigged up a camera and an image so that you did not have to look directly at the sun. I will try to post the pictures. You could even see a very tiny Mercury.
Yes, please post pictures, those that have them.

Here's a couple on this page: http://www.space.com/15781-solar-ecl...er-photos.html

They say it was a Ring of Fire eclipse in some locations:

I had to think about this! Are you talking about Hitchcock's movie The Birds? I have not seen many of his movies- but I did see that one! In fact, I think that is the only one I saw. Very interesting connection there!

Yup. That would be the movie. SATX likes to post scary pictures around here. He's such a rascal.

"Birds" was one of the wife's favorite movies.

Hi all. I want to share a photo that I tried to make look impressionistic. I just looked up a definition:

Quote:
"Impressionist art is a style in which the artist captures the image of an object as someone would see it if they just caught a glimpse of it .... The artists like to capture their images without detail but with bold colors."
http://www.cs.ucf.edu/~MidLink/Impress.html
I took this right downtown, in my city. But maybe it's Rome! It's not perfect but I kind of like it. Haaaaa What do my fellow nature lovers think?
