Hello everyone. I was driving with my friend today who was driving erratically. It was all fun and games until I saw a squirrel getting ready to cross the road. I said no please wait there is a squirrel, he swerved on purpose to hit it and now I feel soo completely horrible that he died.

I feel like that I should have had him slow his driving down before hand before we were laughing at him driving like a madman. I feel if I wouldn't have laughed and egged him on to drive like a nut case he wouldn't have hit it.

Call me crazy but I'm an absolute animal lover and I'm over compassionate sometimes.

I messaged him to tell him how upset I was about him intentionally hitting it, but he said for him that's like killing a fly or a rat...??

I just don't get how a human wouldn't bat an eye to kill something. I wont even kill bugs in my house if I don't have to, I put them outside.

Sorry guy I am very upset over the death of this squirrel. I at least went back to where he was hit and moved him into the side of the road.

NOOOOO!! You are not crazy @DreamPittsburgh !! You are recalling a horrible experience because YOU have a {{Heart}} and respect wildlife and " Life in general!! It's become for too obvious that there are many who view their world as Theirs to exploit!! It's not just wildlife but anything that's vulnerable that surrounds them! Be it the less fortunate, women, kids, and underlings in the workplace!!

Times are changing indeed. FINALLY, between social media plus mainstream media.. a HUGE SPOTLIGHT is being focused on what has been forever under the radar!! Exploration by those in power and control!

OP, your identification with what your friend did as unjust and hateful just for the "Thrill of the Moment" hit you so hard because YOU happen to be someone that cares.. and I Bless You for having such a Heart!!

You are not crazy but you were also not the driver. You did not have control over the situation - that was entirely up to the driver ~ not the passenger.

Kudos to you for caring.

Whether or not you want a friend that kills innocent animals for no reason - that's another story.

I definitely am having second thoughts. He is a co-worker. We were on our way to jump his car. Im beside myself. I don't know why, I'm a grown ass man..lol...I just can't help but think of his life and if he had a family.

Driving like a nut for fun sometimes (where it is reasonably safe) is one thing. Wild and crazy, but not BAD.

Purposefully going out of your way to swerve and kill something is a totally other thing.

Absolutely not your fault, but I, personally, would never hang out with him again.

If it was me, he'd be a former friend.

I would not want to be around him either, but if you are working with him, I guess you will have to remain polite. It was in no way your fault, that the jerk, hit the squirrel, on purpose. HUGS!!

How do I stop thinking about his death? I feel like I could have stopped it? Maybe I need therapy for feeling so guilty about things like this.

What do you think you could have done to stop it? Grabbed the wheel and run both of you off the road where you could have caused and accident and possible injured and killed you and your co worker or another human being?

What is more tragic. The death of the squirrel or the possible injury or death of a human?
