I just applied for a job at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. I live in Barrington so would be taking the Rt 16 Little Bay Bridge to Newington, on to Portsmouth and finally to Kittery via I-95. Google Maps says this is a 26 minute drive, to which I say BS depending on when I leave and return from the shipyard.

Question is - what are the worst times to be on that bridge, i.e. 5 mph traffic? I've not been on it much before 9 AM on weekdays and the time I was it was crawling. What times in the morning and afternoon does it start getting squirrely?

I commute to Manchester now, so it'd probably be less time than what I spend now (50-55 minutes).

Thanks...

Slowest times headed south seem to be between 7:30 and 9:00 in the morning and headed north between 4:15 and 6:00 in the afternoon. It would definatly be a shorter commute than to Manchester. It would probably be a 30- 45 minute drive at normal commute times

I used to live in L.A. - and I've never seen it as bad any freeway in rush hour there. I commuted to Portsmouth for a few years, and generally had no trouble leaving Madbury at 8.30 for a 9am start. However, any accident locks that place up far worse than usual.

Try this: head over to Google maps, and bring up the bridge. Type "traffic" in the search bar and hit enter. This will show live traffic. At the bottom of the page, change the option from "Live Traffic" to "Typical Traffic" and select a day and the time for your commute. Presto - traffic average speeds on that day and time!
