IMO you just need to call around and get some estimates for septic system contractors.

a guess would be somewhere between 8k -12k - but you need to call a septic designer first to check soils, etc. you will only get ballparks without a design. design is going to run you $1400 or so with perk test, test pit, design and state fees....

Gotta start with a design.
Read up on septic systems. There are many types.
Try to avoid any system that uses a pump. Try for gravity feed to leach field. But if house is on a hill might not happen.
Find out where the well is as there are distance requirements.

Or

Do what Larry did. He had a retired earth contractor come in on a Sunday and do the entire septic system on the cheap. Quite illegal, by the way. But it is still working properly 20 years later.

Is the old sump full or have you received a notice requiring you to install a septic system? How close is your well?

I've looked at several newer homes in the Unity, Lempster and Washington areas and all had conventional in-ground septic drain fields. This type of system is the cheapest to install. Most of the areas in Sullivan County have good drainage soils. Figure around $10,000 for installation of this type of setup.
