i am currently homeless and i was raised in farmington.. i am trying to straighten out my life.. my car is broken down, i can't seem to get a job and i have to go back to the portsmouth homeless shelter.. i want to try to stay up this way where i grew up... does anyone have any information they could help me with?
There is work to be had it just might now be something you want to do. At this point just get A job, any job. While you are working that job be on the lookout for something better.
I concur entirely with SgtHoskins. Take ANY job now- get some $ and continue to look for better.
One thing that will help you to get selected is a good resume (yes, even for a dishwasher). I sent you an offer to help with that.
You can find NICE clothes at goodwill cheap for an interview as well.
Also be aware that since Portsmouth is "walkable" you may be better off staying there to get your life back together- a car is a big expense and not having one saves you A LOT of $ that you really need for other priorities.
Amanda, I was homeless twice in my youth. Both times I had to pull myself up by my bootstraps all by myself, it wasn't easy but I got it done. Harrison Ford one paraphraised his character Han Solo on the Force, saying; "The force is with you if you force yourself."
Force yourself. It'll all work out for you.
Sometime we need to be away home to realize our full potential. There is work out there. Might not be what you want for now but it'll get you on your feet.
Check out the local Employment Security in Portsmouth. They have a NH job database that you can register for work on and it filters out what jobs you want to do. They can also help you do a resume. Apply for public assistance. It can't hurt and could tide you over until you get a job. Also Labor Ready hires people for daily work and pays you cash at the end of the day.
There may be boarding houses, although they never advertise and you need to know someone who knows about them. Boarding houses are extremely cheap to live in and often homeowners advertise rooms for rent. usually 500 dollars, although I've always been able to talk them down to 400. so a 100 bucks a week. Other than that a homeless shelter while miserable isn't so bad, you can find a job and save up for a future apartment.
