Hey all,
I just got a job in Mt Laurel,NJ and was searching for rental apartments and came across an apartment in Pennsauken,NJ. Is this area safe? I am unfamiliar with south jersey. The ad said it is by Collin Tract in Pennsauken. I know they said the neighboring town is Camden which I heard also to avoid. If you guys have any information on this town please let me know that can be helpful! Thanks!

AVOID ?? Run for your life !!!

Their are sections to avoid. The closer to camden, the more you want to avoid.
Collin Tract is not too bad.
If you can go a few miles east, you will find, it gets much nicer and safer.

It's OK. A bit too close to Camden for my taste. It's kind of dumpy. I worked at a bank in Pennsauken and the people that live there are blue collar/ lower middle class or very old.

Friend of ours bought a short sale house there. He went to closing, got everything done. Went home. Next day he went to the house. Someone stripped the house of all the copper piping. Weird huh?

Again. Its not HORRIBLE like Camden but it's not the nicest town. There are plenty of other towns to live in.

I Have no problems in Pennsauken. I think it's a great town to live in. One of the most diverse towns in NJ.

It depends where in Pennsauken. Pretty much anything west of Rt 130 has pretty much gone down to the pits at this point.

My father was from Collins Tract, which is really just an extension of Merchantville's neighborhood into Pennsauken. It is really the only part of Pennsauken you can really say is a "nice" area. The rest of that side of town is not exactly unsafe, but kind of dumpy.

If you are going to rent there, I see no problem with where you are looking.

I agree with this. In general as long as you are east of Route 130, there isn't much to worry about. Collins Tract is pretty indistinguashable from areas of Merchantville and Cherry Hill that are nearby. As a rental where you aren't worried about schools, it's a decent choice.

I grew up in Pennsauken. I loved living there. But this was years ago. I grew up on 46th Street. Going back to visit and it is not the same as it was back then.

Thanks guys for the advice. I will be visiting the property this weekend. It is only a short 2 month rental stay, so I guess it's not too bad. I guess if I don't like it, I will have to move out anyways. I am just buying time and get to know the area before signing a lease in Cherry Hill or another "nicer" part close to Mt laurel. Again thanks for the info!

Try pennsauken golf course villas. I live in their sister apt and it is fabulous. The villas are a hlaf mile from the cherry hill mall, on the golf course.

Is Pennsauken really that bad I thought it was a decent blue collared working class town. I live in Blackwood so I really don't know I'm just asking? Some people say its went downhill and it has issues with crime but what I don't understand is why I never hear anything serious happening in Pennsauken. In terms of gangs drugs, crime etc.. So why does everybody say its bad. Is the area close to the Pennsauken Police Department the good area or bad. I drove through Pennsauken and it didn't look scary at all. Just was wondering if anybody from Pennsauken could give me some feedback thanks.
