There is a Tip Cup on like EVERY counter of every place i go into to pick up any kind of take-out ANYthing. I usually dont tip them, but if my change is only a small amount of coins, I might.

And if i wanna tip the gas station guy - I will. Sorry if it bothers anyone (NOTTT). lol

When I first started driving many years ago at age 17 I ddn't know if you were supposed to tip either. So the guy fills my tank and I tip him $1 and he says to me "Gee, you're the nicest guy I've ever met." Later I asked my father if you are supposed to tip or not and he just about laughed me out of the house

I had a dryer delivered by BestBuy yesterday.

I tipped each guy $10, and i'm sure they make good money. (They unpacked and hooked up the dryer, also - which was stated ahead of time.)

My mom taught us "what you give away, comes back to you two-fold." It was true with her, and i hope it will be with me!

Like other had said, the gas already priced in their wage. I so wish they let me fill my own gas, that probably save 10 to 20 cents a gallon. with a 21 gallon tank, that's saving of $4 every time.
Go to one of those gas price sites & tell all of us how pumping your own gas is cheaper. You can also do a search of this forum; the topic has been discussed a lot.

States that have self serve are more expensive then NJ by at least 10 cents a gallon if not more because they have to carry more insurance in case a customer spills it on them or all over.

There is a Gasoline retailers Association of NJ that fights for our right to cheaper gas. You can bet when this topic comes up in the state house; there are many people lobbying to keep things the way they are. While some people are qualified to pump their own gas; some people are morons or don't pay attention & spill gas.

As far as window washing; it dies when my dad retired. He was one of the last people to wash windows.

We should have no tipping in restaurants too.
I hate having to tip.

That would obviously have to include a change in the pay for waiters/waitresses.

I've never tipped at a gas station, ever. Maybe that means I'm cheap, but I don't know of anyone else who does either. It's a service station...the "service" is if they check your oil, wash your windows, etc...it's part of the job.

Yeah, living my whole life in New Jersey I've never really seen ANYONE tipping the gas attendent. I'm sure it happens and I've seen a neighbor tip the garbage men several times in one year so I'm sure some people are into tipping and like to spread the wealth. I guess if I had a lot of money I might tip more myself but generally I really doubt gas attendents are waiting for a tip.
