Many, many parents in the state of New Jersey will pack up & move down South as soon as their children graduate from school. You feel this is in you best interest economically.
Teachers (who spend as much or more time raising your sniveling, obnoxious, overbearing, entitled little brats) want what's in their best interest economically as well. What's the difference?
Are the parents the bloodsuckers of New Jersey tax money? Those who punch out as soon as Jr. gets his quality NJ education & then refuse to pay a cent more after their "little future president" gets all He/She can out of this states impressive public school system? Please.........................
Everyone who knows politics knows Christie Cream is attacking teachers because their union donates the most money in the state to the Democratic party. Fire & Police unions are as much a drag on NJ's financial health as Teachers; but Gov Cream won't be actually, actively looking to break their union anytime soon because they vote Republican. Believe it.
Actually you do not have the same first amendment rights in a school. If a child wore a shirt with an anti Semitic statement on it the child would be required to change it.
So wearing a tshirt with a union logo equates to wearing one that is antisemitic? So much for rationality.
And FYI the reason no one can wear a antisemitic shirt is because it creates a hostile and disruptive learning environment. I seriously doubt my NJMEA shirt with a seahorse logo and the phrase "teach at the beach 2010" is disrupting anything.

So much for teacher appreciation week btw.
I didn't say that, so much for reading comprehension. I simply said the first amendment applies differently to the school setting.

Because, you know - name-calling is a great, mature way to discuss a topic....
I don't have a problem with the teachers wearing the shirts or using whatever schwag the NJEA wants to give them. As long as the teachers are meeting the dress code standards for their district, no big deal. It's a form of silent protest and solidarity and should be well within their right.
Where I draw the line is when they start bringing contracts and labor disputes into the classroom, like happened last year. Some kids were getting tests asking them, "Is it fair to work without a contract?", "If a teacher makes the state minimum salary and needs to pay 1.5% for benefits how much less money do they earn?"
So, wearing their shirts to show solidarity, no problem. Prosthletyzing to kids about their labor dispute, problem.

What about all of the teachers and others who hightail it out of NJ as soon as they retire and get their pensions? Is that ok with you? I wasn't aware that people were obligated to stay in one state their whole lives.
BTW, education in NJ is only as good as the town. Guess what, it's not the teachers, as much as they would like to take the credit, it is the parents. Sure, there are good teachers, as there are everywhere, but it is the educated populace of places like Milburn, Haddonfield and Tenafly that make the school systems what they are.
Sorry for your life.

Fire all these teachers who do bring their union clothing and discuss their own contracts to their students. Hopefully they get fired anyway.
