They are denser when looking at NYC, but when looked at by neighborhood, the densest neighborhood in Union City, West NY, or Hoboken is less dense than the densest neighborhood in NYC.
In any case, Bayonne is served by the HBLR, which you can take to Hoboken for the train to the Meadowlands. The fare is $4.20 for 2 one-way tickets on the HBLR, and (I believe) $8 for round-trip tickets on the Meadowlands train (NJT's site won't give me the information).
Unless you're asking what's the closest commuter rail station to Bayonne. In that case, it would probably be Newark Penn Station or Elizabeth on the opposite side of Newark Bay.
