Hi, I moved out of NJ, just did it and some may want an update. Well I moved right outside Plattsburgh, NY . I have basically spent the past month moving myself in my new log cabin and finally closed yesterday. I have spent probably a total of two months before the closing here and I LOVE IT!! Here are all the things I love. The people are so friendly. There are no crowds, just enough people to keep things running. For example instead of 55 banks there are 4 banks. My house and property are great. My neighbors are great. I am not a professional so jobs are not a problem. My car insurance for two new vehicles is 1000. My taxes are 2000. I can live. I am not stressed out. I don't see illegals. Most of Clinton County is Red. If I want liberals or action or trendy shops I can take the ferry to Burlington VT. If I want to hike which I love, I am 10 minutes to the mountains. The air is clean. There is no competing or keep up with the jones. I just was meant to be here.

Now there may be some negitives, like not eveything is fancy and no Mcmansions. I do see some trailer but all the people here work, so crime is not an issue. I am not next to a guy making meth in his trailer. They are not red necks like I almost thought, however I can see maybe one or two. Is it perfect?????????? So far pretty damn close. However I have not applied for a job yet. I don't need to go to work, I want to work but no need. I can say I don't know too many negitives yet, If I find them I will definaltely tell you them. I thought one bad thing may be no organic like whole foods but there are all the farms and all the big supermarkets here have organic sections. Plus the kooks in Burlington love organic stuff so thats not an issue. I am happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me say this, it was very nerve racking leaving. NJ for some reason traps you mentally. I can't explain it but you have the illusion that you are rich in NJ even if you broke you see it all and fool yourself. I am so glad I left. I have family and will visit but not stay too long. Thanks Marilyn

Congratulations to your move. You sound the way I was almost 3 years ago, exhaling after experiencing frustration, probably got pressure from family not to move, the place is for hicks, etc, etc, but you came out for better on the other side. There will be periods when you miss some of the former cultural familiarities, such as food, etc, but overall, you'll be better off financially in Plattsburgh.

Don't sell Montreal short while you are there. Wonderful city. If you want to experience something truly spectacular, invest the 4 hour drive into Quebec City. Just a great place, and now, not really that far from where you reside.

Marilyn, Best of luck in your new home. I bet leaving NJ took a lot of stress from your life.
Diane--Over a year now since I left

once we passed Glen Falls, NY all the stress was gone. But I got new sets of stresses. I hope a fisher does not get my cat. My stresses are certainly not money anymore however , I love it here, I did not leave NJ because I was poor or could not afford it. I could afford it, just did not want too! Now here is the kicker of it all, my husband was really worried, will I fit in. I said to him we don't fit with NJ anymore wake up. He and the neighbors hung out last night until 12am. It like he made a whole new group of friends instantly. He never had freinds except the high school ones, who are all too busy working in NJ. Yes work friends but outside of work, no one gave a crap. Here all the neighbors are great. I have a big 1.5 or more wooded acre lot so I can have privacy or be social. I am not in a fish bowl. I am thrilled. I am so happy we finally did it. Thanks both, and I am heading to Canada soon. As soon as a great guitarist plays Im there!!!!!!

Burlington is a great town for many things and you are not too far from Montreal. I lived just outside of Burlington for about 6 months in 1993. I really liked it. Great hiking areas!!!
