I don't get that-someone will always have it worse, does it really mean that the utility companies should have no accountability and no expectations just because most of us thankfully didn't perish in the storm?
Practically speaking, when you have a storm like this, it's pretty unreasonable to expect any better than what the utilities are accomplishing. Simply put, when you have to pretty much repair the system over 2/3rd of the state....it's going to take a while.
And yes, while it would be wonderful if the utility company could provide people with a real timeframe, the reality is they can't. There's far too many variables involved, as anyone who really sits down and thinks about difficulty and complexity of repairing utilities after storms would realize.
You might be wrong. Don't you think the parents of young kids would love to have a distraction for their kids for an hour? Go knock on the door and ask if they want a little company--I'm sure they are going a little stir crazy as well. Take some cardboard and tin foil and help the kids make pirate swords or something along those lines.
Um, no thanks, I think I'll pass on that idea. I was the Girl Scout leader who was craft-challenged.
Believe me I know how you feel. My husband is getting quite cranky without electricity. The Internet on my cell phone has been intermittent. The irony is my husband ordered a new printer toner and Windows 8 which have arrived this week, but of course he can't use them until we get the electricity back.
Luckily this time we have hot water. Taking showers by flashlight is quite interesting.
I take mine by candlelight! Also, I have a bunch of those little keychains with the tiny flashlight in them. I have them propped strategically throughout my house.
Now there saying tuesday or NOV 9....either way ppl are just about ready to riot up here.....1000s being poured into fuel and the lack of clean up or communication is ridiculous.
I found this out when I lived in Miami, I lived right by a store, a gas station, a hospital and a school. The grid where I lived was turned on first. For blocks....no one else had electric, but me and my close neighbors did....

Check your town websites. A lot have started posting good information. I know that Warren, Green Brook, and Long Hill in my local area have at least some communication.

Are you talking about currency or does this involve a Bass-O-Matic?
Good early morning from the heart of Bergen County.
As some of you, in the surrounding area, know, my town's two major highways have electricity, opened stores, and lots of gas-hungry motorists. However, as of this hour (almost 1ish), majority of the town still does not have power. Only one grid section, as far as I know of, has power that literally never went out since the storm hit. It's like day and night going between the streets with and without power.
My house still doesn't have power, but we have a generator powering up a super stuffed fridge. It was prepared in advance with 2 weeks worth of food. (We also have a cooler.) It's good to have a phone with net access during these situations. I understand that PSE&G had to use toothbrushes to clean their main station so they deserve a lot of kudos for working hard non-stop. Just need to remain being patient.
Congrats to people who got their power back this week! . For everyone else, hang on just a little longer....
