Response to njmom66 post ..... the 6-points is possibly acceptable the first time. But understand a 16 and 17 year old may not have that much ID They are usually in school. Also, once the 6-pts has been checked, there should be no need for a second check (either the same day or when the person returns for their driving test/license). The DMV employee doing the initial check must do their job correctly the first time! That is over-kill AKA: a waste of time at taxpayers expense.
Your law enforcement pals may thing this is for everyone's safety, but it's not ! The terrorists that took down the planes on 9-11 has REAL driver's licenses !!
The answer: privatize the DMV. Clean house. Hire proper personnel (and additional staff where needed). Bring in employees (and management) who want to work. Same as the teacher's union, there are too many lifers in the DMV. While there are thousands of people unemployed.
At the 3 DMV i regularly go to, i would keep 40% and fire the other 60% That's sad but true. There is alot of dead-weight. The governor was thinking about running to president, how about fixing NJ first !
