The poor weather forecasters...it hasn't snowed in three days so now they're trying to convince us all that we're going to freeze solid if we step outside tomorrow. If single digit temperatures were that unbearable by human beings, the Upper Midwest, New England, and all of Canada would be uninhabitable The weather guy on ABC7 was going on and on about how quickly exposed skin will freeze in this temperatures... Did anyone see the Green Bay game last night? Did 50,000 Cheese heads faces freeze and fall off during that game or did I miss something? Of course, I'd rather be outside in -10 degree weather than 90 degree weather, but still. Cowboy up New Jersey!
cant believe they are closing schools for this. All the water from the snow is gone, not sure what they think is going to freeze
I will concede that one of the concerns is bussing. Some districts are still running older-than-dirt non-turbo diesels with no glow plugs or intake heaters. They're a b---- to start on 35 degree mornings let alone 5 degree mornings. Of course, they could have started them this afternoon and let them run all night (that's what NJTransit does with their old diesels), but then people would be complaining about the waste of fuel...

I grew up in East Europe in the 70s. The schools would only be closed when the temperature reached -20C (-4F). Other than that, we walked to the bus stop just like any other day. We were soooo frozen, and it wasn't fun, why? Because it was WINTER. I too am so tired of people even mentioning the word "snow". It's winter, and winter is cold! Get some proper winter gear and clothes. Back in the day, as a kid(!) I didn't even have proper snow boots, and snow pants did not exist. I feel for the people with no heat, but when I hear stay at home moms complain about having to bring their kid to school, I can't believe my ears… Toughen up people!
I remember one particularly bad day when I was in middle school, there was a blizzard and the bus had chains on the tires. All the way to school, thump, thump, thump like riding on a square wheel. I should have skipped that day, it was ridiculous.
I can't remember schools ever closing just for cold, except when the heat failed or there was a water main break.
