This is what happens when you have decades of Dem controlled cities. The best quote whether Einstein said it or not: Insanity..."doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". The people who live within inner cities keep on voting dems and keep on expecting different results.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Holding up three fingers, Gov. Chris Christie wanted the crowd to listen a second time to a statistic about the number of “college ready” students in Camden.
“How bad has it been in Camden? How ‘bout this -- Last year, only three students graduated college ready,” Christie said during his Jan. 14 “State of the State” address. “I want you to listen to that again. In the entire public school system in Camden last year, only three students graduated college ready.”
The Republican governor’s claim refers to a statistic recently cited by Camden Superintendent Paymon Rouhanifard in regard to students whose SAT scores met the “SAT College and Career Readiness Benchmark” developed by the College Board, which administers the standardized test.
Ok lets be clear what that means. Those are kids who had an SAT score of 1550 or better. By that measure only 1/3 of NJ high schools have that measure as their average SAT score. Seriously, most schools in NJ are not graduating a majority of students who meet that mark. Scary, but also a bit meaningless when you consider our students are considered some of the best in the nation.
In Camden less than half the seniors even take the SAT.
There is absolutely no doubt Camden students are unprepared by every measure, but cherry picking a SAT score, when the reality not even half the kids feel ready enough to even take the test is silly.
Lets start with getting those in Camden to the point where they all pass the HSPA.
But to be fair, in just three years they have gotten nearly a third more students to proficient. Lets find out HOW they got those kids to proficient, and then find out how to get the rest there.
HSPA my a**. Why would NJ even think about serving an exam for juniors in high school when they already have enough on their minds with the SAT/ACT and getting into college?
All students HAVE to take the HSPA, therefore it is a better snapshot of the quality of the school, even if not as meaningful as end of year exams.
Depends on what you're looking at. In schools where a lot of the students don't take the SAT, it adds value for exactly that reason. However, it's a bit of a joke as far as difficulty (or at least I remember it being so back when I took it) and results are less finely measured so for comparing among schools that perform well the SATs are a better yardstick.
Remember the purpose of it is to make sure all NJ highschool grads are meeting a floor of the bare minimum amount required to pass.
There's no way of knowing until the people snap out of their zombie sleep and vote one in.
They use to have a program in the 1980's that they would take a few kids that showed early promise and bussed them to Moorestown. Wondering if that still happens
